One of the good things about working in the City of London is that there are freebies and goodies to be had at the various railway stations. A motley crowd of young people sing out Good Morning! to passengers as they exit the stations, and press into their eager, sweaty little hands all manner of items. The suburban stations such as Liverpool Street and Moorgate provide a daily supply, whereas the Tube stops of Bank and Monument cough up less frequently.
In the past year, I have received or been offered:
- Kit-Kat chocolate bars
- Mouth fresheners
- Orange juice
- Apple juice
- Energy bars
- Mixed nuts
- Peppermint chewing-gum
- Offers of cheap PCs
- Offers of free drinks at local watering holes
- Advice on adult education
- Pineapple juice
- 10% off sandwich meals at Subway
- Teeth whiteners
- Discounts on train-fares to Scotland
- More orange juice
- Multivitamins
- Offers of escorts who will cater to my every whim
- Dirty looks from punters turned away when I am handed the last freebie
Ah, free enterprise!
