Joropo

Damn, I don't remember ever dancing quite like this in my youth in Caracas. Check out these two little ones - what verve! The girl is a trooper, having lost her shoe at some point, but continuing nevertheless, but it's the little boy who is the true hero here. Michael Jackson and his hat have nothing on him. (The video quality is somewhat poor, but the sound is clear, and the skill of the kids is evident.)

The dance is the Joropo, a Venezuelan blend of African polyrhythms, native American percussion, and European waltz, a footstomping and fastpaced twirling dance, accompanied by the harp and mandolin and maracas and bandola.
