Here's a wonderful photograph of a man in Sinkiang holding up a baby in his palm, taken in 1943 by William Vandivert for Life magazine.

Reminds me of that surreal scene in Emir Kusturica's film Black Cat, White Cat in which Afrodita, the midget sister of the hero, meets the man of her dreams, a veritable giant named Grga Veliki, who picks her up in the palm of his hand.

That was a good film.

Great picture. There's really nothing like Life anymore (the Internet is a poor substitute).

KM: As a curated source of excellent pics, I agree, Life was unrivalled. But I wouldn't be so despondent about the present - there are specialist photo sites now for almost any topic, no?
